Ipswich borough council: Cathy French was elected councillor for St Margaretâ€™s ward on 10 November. She gained for the Liberal Democrats a seat previously held by the Conservatives.
Norfolk county council: Byelection on 24 November in Lakenham division after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Fiona Williamson. Term ends 2013. Meanwhile David Callaby, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Fakenham division, has joined the Conservatives citing the Liberal Democrat attitude to Europe as the main reason.
Islington borough council: The Labour Party candidate, Gary Poole, was elected councillor for St Marys ward on 10 November. The outgoing councillor had also been elected as a Labour Party candidate but had left the party shortly before her disqualification.
Redcar and Cleveland council: Byelection on 17 November for two seats in Zetland ward, after the resignations of Ron Harrison and Jim Rogers. Both sitting Liberal Democrat councillors for this ward have resigned over a legal dispute over whether they were disqualified from election in May as members of the teaching staff of Eston Park School; this is a foundation school which is funded through the local education authority and raises the question of disqualification under s. 80 (1) (a) of the Local Government Act 1972. Ron Harrison is seeking re-election as he is no longer working at the school. There is another vacancy in Newcomen ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Glynis Abbott. All terms end in 2015.
Warrington council: Byelection on 17 November in Poulton North ward after the sudden death of Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Oliver, who won the seat in a byelection on 28 July. Term ends May next year.
Adur district council: Vacancy in Eastbrook ward following the disqualification of Liberal Democrat councillor Gavin Ayling, who failed to attend any meetings of the council in six months. The term ends May next year.
Birmingham city council: Victoria Quinn, partner of Labour group leader Sir Albert Bore, was elected councillor for Sparkbrook ward on 10 November. She gains for the Labour Party a seat previously held by Respect – the Unity Coalition.
