Watford borough council: Jeanette Aron was elected councillor for Nascot ward on 29 September, holding the seat for the Liberal Democrats. There is a byelection on 6 October in Vicarage ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tanveer Taj, who is to study for a Mastersâ€™ degree from September; the term ends in May next year.
Bromley borough council: Byelection on 20 October in Shortlands ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor and last yearâ€™s Mayor, George Taylor. Term ends 2014.
Mole Valley district council: Byelection on 20 October in Bookham South ward after the death of chairman of the council Anne Howarth, who was a Liberal Democrat councillor. Term ends in May next year.
Cornwall council: Byelection on 27 October in Bude North and Stratton division after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Nathan Bale. There is another vacancy in Wendron division after the death of Independent councillor Mike Clayton. Both terms end in 2013.
Bradford city council: Vacancy in Great Horton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Rev Paul Flowers. Term ends May next year.
North Yorkshire county council: Byelection on 27 October in Thornton Dale and The Wolds division due to the resignation of Conservative councillor Ron Haigh, who has moved out of the county to help care for his wife. Term ends 2013.
Gwynedd county council: Candidates nominated by Plaid Cymru were elected in two byelections on 29 September. Mandy Williams-Davies was elected in Diffwys and Maenofferen division, gaining the seat from Llais Gwynedd, while Gareth Thomas retained the party’s seat in Penrhyndeudraeth division. The results ensure that Plaid Cymru retain their overall majority on the council.
