The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Bolsover district council: Byelection on 25 August in Shirebrook South West ward after the death of Independent councillor Alan Waring. Term ends 2015.
- Mansfield district council: Vacancy in Park Hall ward after the death of Labour councillor Dorothy Beastall just a day after she was re-elected. Term ends 2015.
East of England
- Fenland district council: Vacancy in Staithe ward after the death in a car accident of former Wisbech Mayor Roger Green, a Conservative councillor. Term ends 2015.
- Norfolk county council: Paul Rice, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in South Smallburgh division, has joined the Conservatives.
- Enfield borough council: Lee Chamberlain, a former Mayor of Enfield, was elected councillor for Bush Hill Park ward on 28 July, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Harrow borough council: Marilyn Ashton was elected councillor for Stanmore Park ward on 28 July, holding the seat for the Conservative Party and returning to the council only a year after standing down.
- Islington borough council: Byelection on 11 August in St Peter’s ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Shelley Coupland, who has been charged with benefit fraud and wants to clear her name. Term ends 2014.
- Tower Hamlets borough council: Maium Miah, who was elected as a Conservative in Millwall ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent supporting Mayor Lutfur Rahman. Miah is to be executive advisor for the Third Sector and Community Engagement.

- Blackburn with Darwen council: Julie Daley was elected councillor for Beardwood with Lammack ward on 28 July, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
- Knowsley borough council: Byelection on 18 August in Page Moss ward after the resignation of Labour councillor and former Mayor Tommy Russell. Term ends May next year.
- Warrington council: Colin Oliver, who lost his seat in Poulton North ward in May, has been re-elected councillor for the ward in a byelection caused by the resignation of his ward colleague. He rejoins the Liberal Democrat group.
- Cherwell district council: Vacancy in Bicester North ward after the death of Conservative councillor Carole Steward. Term ends 2015.
- Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council: Byelection on 11 August in Eton and Castle ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Liam Maxwell, who has been appointed as an adviser to the Government on technology. Term ends 2015.
- Bristol city council: Vacancy in Southmead ward after the resignation due to ill health of Liberal Democrat councillor Dr Jacqueline Bowles. Term ends 2013.
- North Devon district council: Byelection on 11 August in Fremington ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Joanne Bell due to ill health. Term ends 2015.
- North Somerset council: Vacancy in Backwell ward after the death of Independent councillor Tom Collinson. Term ends 2015.
- Somerset county council: Byelection on 4 August in South Petherton division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Anne Larpent. Term ends 2013.
- Birmingham city council: Impending vacancy in Sparkbrook ward due to the resignation of Respect councillor Salma Yaqoob due to ill health. Term ends 2014.
- Stafford borough council: Vacancy in Walton ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Mike Carey. Term ends 2015.
- Wolverhampton city council: Vacancy in Graiseley ward after the death of Labour councillor Dr Mohan Passi. Term ends 2014.

- Torfaen county borough council: Barry Taylor, candidate of the Labour Party, was elected councillor for Snatchwood division on 26 July, gaining a seat previously held by an Independent councillor.
- Edinburgh city council: Byelection on 18 August in City Centre ward after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor David Beckett, who is to attend a course at Harvard. Term ends May next year.
- North Ayrshire council: Byelection on 25 August in Saltcoats and Stevenston ward after the resignation of Labour councillor David Munn. Term ends May next year.
- Perth and Kinross council: Impending vacancy in Highland ward after the 1 August resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Ken Lyall, who is disillusioned with party politics and is emigrating to Australia. Term ends May next year. The byelection is scheduled for 15 September.
