The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Bassetlaw district council: Vacancy in Harworth ward after the resignation of Labour councillor John Clayton. Term ends May 2011.
- Blaby district council: Byelection on 7 October in Saxondale ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Alexandra Dilks. Term ends May 2011.
- North East Derbyshire district council: John McGrory, the Conservative Party candidate, was elected councillor for Gosforth Valley ward on 23 September. He gained the seat from the Liberal Democrats.
East of England
- Cambridge city council: Byelection on 4 November in Coleridge ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Howell due to frustration with local politics. Term ends 2012.
- East Hertfordshire district council: There are two vacancies due to the resignation of a husband and wife team of Independent councillors. Nigel Clark has vacated Sawbridgeworth ward, and Deborah Clark has vacated Hunsdon ward. Both terms end May 2011.
- Watford borough council: Byelection on 14 October in Central ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Sheila Smillie who is moving to Florida. Term ends May 2011.
- Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.
- Camden borough council: Byelection on 28 October in Kentish Town ward after the death of Labour councillor Dave Horan. Term ends 2014.
- Tower Hamlets borough council: Following the referendum vote in favour of establishing the position, the election of an executive Mayor for Tower Hamlets will be held on 21 October. Lutfur Rahman, former leader of the council (2008-10) for Labour, has accepted nomination as an Independent candidate against the official Labour candidate and has therefore been expelled from the Labour Party; he will sit as an Independent councillor.
- Durham county council: Byelection on 30 September in Brandon ward, after the death of Labour councillor Ronnie Rodgers. A fortnight later on 14 October there will be a byelection in Deneside ward after the death of Labour former council leader Albert Nugent. Both terms end in 2013.
- Gateshead borough council: Labour candidates were elected in two byelections on 23 September. Eileen McMaster will represent Lobley Hill and Bensham ward, and Denise Robson will sit for Saltwell ward. Each held the seat for their party. Meanwhile Yvonne McNicol, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Dunston Hill and Whickham East ward, has joined the Labour Party due to her opposition to the Coalition government.
- North Tyneside borough council: Byelection on 30 September in Battle Hill ward following the resignation of Labour councillor Mary Glindon, now MP for North Tyneside. Term ends May 2011.
- Northumberland county council: Vacancy in Ponteland East division after the death of Conservative councillor Mel Armstrong. Term ends 2013.
- Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are two vacancies. That in Ingleby Barwick East ward is caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. That in Mandale and Victoria ward comes after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. Both terms end in May 2011.
- Cheshire East council: Byelection on 30 September in Alderley ward after the death of Conservative councillor Liz Gilliland. Term ends May 2011.
- Hyndburn borough council: Vacancy in Baxenden ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor John Griffiths. Term ends 2012.
- Lancaster city council: Byelection on 7 October in Harbour ward after the death of Morecambe Bay Independent councillor John Barnes. Term ends May 2011.
- Liverpool city council: Vacancy in Croxteth ward, after the death of Labour councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor Rose Bailey. There is expected to be a double vacancy election due to the impending resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Phil Moffatt who is moving to Northern Ireland. Terms end 2011 and 2012.
- Manchester city council: Byelection on 4 November in Hulme ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Emily Lomax, who has been charged with drink-driving. Term ends 2012.
- Rossendale borough council: There are two byelections on 7 October. In Healey and Whitworth ward, Labour councillor Roger Wilson has resigned from a term due to end in May 2011; in Irwell ward, Conservative councillor Michael Christie has resigned from a term due to end in 2014, for health reasons.
- St Helens borough council: There is a byelection on 14 October in Billinge and Seneley Green ward, following the death of Richard Ward. There is also a vacancy in Haydock ward following the death of the longest serving councillor in the country, Jim Caunce. Both were Labour councillors and were serving in terms due to end in 2012.
- South Lakeland district council: Byelection on 4 November in Lyth Valley ward following the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rosie Ballantyne-Smith. Term ends 2012.
- Tameside borough council: Byelection on 30 September in Longdendale ward after the death of Labour councillor Roy Oldham, who was leader of the council for 30 years. Term ends 2014. The byelection is likely to be held on 30 September.
- Wyre borough council: Byelection on 7 October in Tithebarn ward after the death of Conservative councillor Peter Hawley. Term ends May 2011.
- Chiltern district council: There are two byelections on 21 October. Ashley Green, Latimer and Chenies ward will poll after the death of Conservative councillor Graham Sussum, and Great Missenden ward will poll after the resignation of Independent councillor Bob Swayne, who was elected as a Conservative. Term ends May 2011.
- Crawley borough council: Byelection on 7 October in Tilgate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lawrence Taylor due to work commitments. Term ends 2012.
- Elmbridge borough council: There are two byelections on 21 October. That in Hersham North is for a term ending in 2012 and arises from the resignation of Conservative councillor Doug Packer, who is moving out of the borough; that in St George’s Hill ward is for a term ending May 2011 and follows the death of John Bartlett, an Independent councillor and former cabinet member.
- Hampshire county council: Byelection on 21 October in Andover South division after the death of Conservative councillor David Kirk. Term ends 2013.
- Isle of Wight council: Vacancy in Chale, Niton and Whitwell ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor William Myatt-Willington. Term ends 2013.
- Medway council: Byelection on 21 October in River ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Craggs, who was a councillor for only 13 days. He was advised that he could not serve as a councillor and a Special Constable at the same time. Term ends May 2011.
- Mole Valley district council: Byelection on 21 October in Capel, Leigh and Newdigate ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Warren. Term ends 2014.
- Oxford city council: Byelection on 21 October in Barton and Sandhills ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat deputy leader Patrick Murray who is moving out of the city. Term ends 2012.
- Rushmoor borough council: Attika Choudhary was elected councillor for Wellington ward on 23 September, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
- Tunbridge Wells district council: Byelection on 7 October in St James ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mary Lewis. Term ends 2012.
- Wealden district council: Peter Newnham was elected councillor for Heathfield North and Central ward on 23 September, holding the seat for his party.
- West Sussex county council: Byelection on 7 October in Maidenbower division due to the impending resignation of former council leader Henry Smith, who is now MP for Crawley. Term ends 2013.
- Winchester city council: Byelection on 14 October in St Paul ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Karen Barratt. If the Liberal Democrats do not win, then they will lose their majority on the council. Term ends May 2011.
- Cheltenham borough council: Byelection on 28 October in Springbank ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor John Morris. Term ends 2012.
- Mendip district council: Byelection on 21 October in Ashwick, Chilcompton and Stratton ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maxine Oxford. Term ends May 2011.
- Poole council: Vacancy in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
- Sedgemoor district council: Byelection on 30 September in Woolavington ward after the death of Labour group leader Roger Lavers. Term ends May 2011.
- Swindon borough council: Vacancy in Moredon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Steph Exell. Term ends May 2011.
- Teignbridge district council: Alistair Dewhirst, the Liberal Democrat candidate, was elected councillor for Ipplepen ward on 23 September. He gained the seat from the Conservatives and thereby ensured that his party becomes the largest group on the council.
- Herefordshire council: Byelection on 14 October in St Nicholas ward, after the death of Independent councillor David Benjamin. Term ends May 2011.
- Solihull borough council: Brynn Tudor, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Shirley West ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent Liberal Democrat.
- Walsall borough council: Vacancy in Rushall-Shelfield ward after the death of Conservative councillor Albert Griffiths. Term ends May 2011.
- Worcestershire county council: Vacancy in Bowbrook ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Sheldon. Term ends 2013.
- Leeds city council: Byelection on 14 October in Guiseley and Rawdon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stuart Andrew, now MP for Pudsey. Term ends May 2011.
- Scarborough borough council: Byelection on Friday 24 September in Eastfields ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Brian O’Flynn. Term ends May 2011.
- Sheffield city council: Byelection on 21 October in Manor Castle ward after the death of Labour councillor and former council leader Jan Wilson. Term ends 2014.
- York city council: Byelection on 14 October in Hull Road ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Roger Pierce due to ill health. Term ends May 2011.
- Carmarthenshire county council: Vacancy in Cenarth ward after the death of Independent councillor Haydn Jones. Term ends 2012.
- Conwy county borough council: Vacancy in Eglwys Bach ward after the resignation of Angharad Booth-Taylor of Plaid Cymru who is moving to Pembrokeshire. Term ends 2012.
- Gwynedd county council: There are two byelections. On 30 September, Bowydd and Rhiw ward will poll after the resignation of Llais Gwynedd councillor Dafydd Hughes. A week later on 7 October, Seiont ward will poll after the death of Independent councillor Bob Anderson. Both terms end in 2012.
