The council database has been updated with the latest news following the council elections on 6 May, although a few wards are recounting. The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

East of England

London

  • Camden borough council: The election of three councillors for the Haverstock ward will take place on Tuesday 25 May after the death of sitting Liberal Democrat councillor Syed Hoque, who was a candidate for re-election.

North East

  • No updates this week.

North West

  • Cumbria county council: Val Tarbitt was elected councillor for Longtown Bewcastle division in the byelection on 6 May, retaining the seat for the Conservative Party. There is another vacancy in Aspatria and Wharrels division due to the death of Council leader Jim Buchanan, also a Conservative. Both terms end in 2013.
  • Fylde borough council: Vacancy in Ribby-with-Wrea ward, after the death of Independent councillor Lyndsay Greening. Term ends 2011.
  • Lancashire county council: Misfar Hassan, the Labour Party candidate, was elected councillor for Burnley Central East division on 6 May, gaining the seat from the Liberal Democrats.
  • Lancaster city council: John Harrison was elected councillor for Skerton West ward on 6 May, retaining the seat for the Labour Party.
  • South Ribble borough council: Conservative candidate Caroline Moon was elected for Moss Side ward on 6 May, retaining the seat for her party.
  • West Lancashire district council: Vacancy in Skelmersdale South ward after the death of Labour councillor Doreen Saxon. Term ends 2011.

South East

  • Chiltern district council: Peter Shepherd was elected councillor for Amersham on the Hill ward on 6 May, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
  • Hastings borough council: The election of a councillor for Ore ward has been postponed until 17 June after the death of sitting Conservative councillor Roy Tucker who had been nominated for re-election.
  • Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 27 May in Ryde South ward after the disqualification of non-party councillor Adrian Whittaker, who has been given a suspended jail sentence. Term ends 2013.
  • Mid Sussex district council: Sue Ng of the Liberal Democrats was elected for Haywards Heath – Heath ward on 6 May, gaining the seat from the Conservatives. Three other byelections saw the Conservatives retain seats, with Robert Salisbury winning Cuckfield ward, Simon McMenemy winning High Weald ward, and Anna Defilippo winning Hurstpierpoint and Downs ward.
  • Surrey county council: Anthony Samuels was elected for Walton South and Oatlands division on 6 May, retaining the seat for the Conservative Party.
  • Test Valley borough council: Maureen Flood was elected councillor for Anna ward on 6 May, retaining the seat for the Conservatives.
  • West Sussex county council: John O’Brien was elected councillor for East Grinstead South and Ashurst Wood division on 6 May, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
  • Wycombe borough council: Jen Joseph of the Liberal Democrats was elected councillor for Totteridge ward on 6 May, gaining the seat from the Conservatives.

South West

West Midlands

  • East Staffordshire borough council: Greg Hall was elected for Bagots ward on 6 May, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
  • Herefordshire council: Tony Johnson was elected for Hope End ward, and Phill Bettington was elected for Ledbury ward, on 6 May; both councillors held their seats for the Conservative Party.
  • Stafford borough council: Ann Kelly was elected councillor for Gnosall and Woodseaves ward on 6 May, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
  • Warwickshire county council: Jeffrey Clarke of the Conservative Party was elected for Nuneaton St Nicholas division, and Clive Rickhards of the Liberal Democrats was elected for Studley division, on 6 May. Both seats were held by their respective parties.

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • East Riding of Yorkshire council: Fred Smith of the Liberal Democrats was elected for Willerby and Kirk Ella ward on 6 May, gaining the seat from the Conservatives (who failed to nominate a candidate on time).
  • Ryedale district council: Hugh Spencer of the Liberal Democrats was elected councillor for Norton West ward on 6 May, gaining the seat from an Independent.

Wales

Scotland

  • Glasgow city council: Christopher Hughes was elected for Drumchapel and Anniesland ward on 6 May, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
  • Perth and Kinross council: Tom Gray was elected councillor for Strathallan ward on 6 May, holding the seat for the Scottish National Party.
