No changes in party representation came about in the six byelections held on 18 October. The Conservatives held seats in Croyland ward, Wellingborough borough council, in Sandbach West ward, Congleton borough council, and in Wigan Central ward, Wigan borough council. Labour held on in Rossmore ward, Ellesmere Port and Neston borough council, and in Church Gresley ward, South Derbyshire district council. A Liberal Democrat was elected in Whitchurch ward, Basingstoke and Deane borough council.
