The one seat to change hands in Thursday’s byelections was in Helensburgh and Lomond South ward of Argyll and Bute council, where the Liberal Democrat candidate was elected to fill a seat vacated by Independent Ronald Kinloch.
Labour held a seat on Leicestershire county council in the Shepshed division, despite losing the seats there in district elections in May. The Conservatives kept Datchet ward of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and had also retained Northallerton Broomfield ward on Hambleton district council when their candidate was returned unopposed.
