There have been two recent councillor defections worthy of note. Les Bennett of Mendip district council has left the Conservatives to sit as an Independent Conservative, taking with him the Conservative overall majority on the council. Sue Ashworth of Shepway district council has moved to the Conservatives from the Liberal Democrats.
