Forthcoming byelections

No byelections last week, but there are some coming up.

7 June

• Beeston Central (Broxtowe Borough Council). This is one of the wards which should have been elected on 3 May but was postponed because a candidate died. Labour won both seats in the ward in 2003.
• Burnham on Crouch North (Maldon District Council). A postponed poll. The Conservatives won the seat in 2003.
• North Worle (North Somerset). A postponed poll. The Liberal Democrats won it in 2003.

14 June

• Berryhead with Furzeham (Torbay Unitary). A postponed poll. In 2003, two seats went Conservative and one Liberal Democrat.
• Bramshaw, Copythorne North and Minstead (New Forest District Council). A postponed poll. The Conservatives won it in 2003.
• Charlestown (Manchester City Council). Caused by the death of Eric Hobin (Labour). The term runs to 2010.
• St Andrews (Havering Borough Council). Caused by the resignation of Brenda Riddle (Residents’ Group). The term runs to 2010.
• Warley (Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council). A postponed poll. The Liberal Democrats won the ward in 2003.

21 June

• Carterton North East (West Oxfordshire District Council). A postponed poll. The Conservatives won the ward in 2003, but their defending councillor died (see below).
• Carterton South West (Oxfordshire County Council), following the death of Keith Stone (Conservative) who was fighting for re-election in his district council seat. The term runs to 2009.
• Davenham and Moulton (Vale Royal District Council). A postponed poll. In 2003, the Conservatives won two seats and the Liberal Democrats, one.
• Meopham North (Gravesham Borough Council). A postponed poll. The Conservatives won both seats in 2003.
• Stowmarket North and Stowupland (Suffolk County Council), caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Eleanor Ramsey. The term runs to 2009.

28 June

• Craven (Pendle Borough Council), caused by the death of Mary Norcross (Liberal Democrat). The term runs to 2010.
• Whaddon (Milton Keynes Borough Council), caused by the resignation of Nigel Long (Labour). The term runs to 2010.

12 July

• Haverstock (Camden Borough Council), caused by the resignation of Roy Shaw (Labour). The term runs to 2010.
• Keele and Westlands (Staffordshire Borough Council), caused by the death of Glennis Deakin (Conservative). The term runs to 2009.
• Llansamlet (Swansea County Borough Council), caused by the resignation of Lawrence Bailey (Labour). The term runs to 2008.
• Westlands (Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council), caused by the death of Glennis Deakin (Conservative). The term runs to 2010.
