Forthcoming byelections

The following byelections are known about:

26 April

  • Chingford Green ward (Waltham Forest borough), caused by the death of Conservative Councillor Derek Arnold in March. The term runs to 2008 2010.

3 May
On the same day as the main body of local elections there are normally a series of byelections, because resigning councillors time their departure in order to fit with an election that is already happening. The following byelections will take place at the same time as already planned local elections, where an extra member will be elected:

In addition there are byelections in authorities where there are no other elections taking place:

  • Abbey Road ward (Westminster city council) due to the death of Kevin Gardner, a Conservative. The term runs to 2010.
  • Cuckfield and Lucastes division (West Sussex county council), due to the resignation of Anne Marie Morris, a Conservative. The term runs to 2009.
  • Gensing ward (Hastings borough council), due to the resignation of Dr Daniel Poulter, a Conservative. The term runs to 2010.
  • Little Paxton and St Neots division (Cambridgeshire county council), caused by the resignation of Sharon Lee (Conservative). The term runs to 2009.
  • Marylebone High Street ward (Westminster city council) due to the resignation of Michael Vearncombe, a Conservative. The term runs to 2010.
  • Prebendal division (Northamptonshire county council), caused by the resignation of Priscilla Padley, Conservative. Her term ran until 2009.
  • Silverhill ward (Hastings borough council) due to the resignation of Michael Lambrechs, a Conservative. This term runs to 2008.
  • Sutton division (Cambridgeshire county council), caused by the resignation of Philip Bailey (Liberal Democrat). The term runs to 2009.
  • Uplands division (Northamtonshire county council), caused by the resignation of Kay Hemmings, a Conservative. Her term ran until 2009.
  • Wansbeck Choppington division (Northumberland county council), caused by the death of Labour councillor Alan Cutter. The successful candidate serves until 2009.

24 May

  • Dudden Hill ward (Brent borough council), caused by the disqualification of Pawan Gupta (Liberal Democrat). The term runs to 2010.

12 July

  • Haverstock ward (Camden borough council), caused by the resignation of Roy Shaw (Labour) who had been the longest serving councillor in London, first elected more than 50 years ago. The term runs to 2010.
