The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • East Devon: The byelection in Exmouth Brixington ward held on 23 July was won by Lee Mason. Conservative hold.
  • Medway: The byelection in Cuxton, Halling and Riverside ward held on 23 July was won by William Burvill. Reform UK gain from Conservative.
  • South Gloucestershire: The byelection in Longwell Green ward held on 23 July was won by Graham Hardwell. Conservative hold.
  • Thurrock: The byelection in Grays Riverside ward held on 23 July was won by Jo Potter. Labour gain from Reform UK.
  • Thurrock: The byelection in Grays Town ward held on 23 July was won by Amin Hoque. Labour gain from Reform UK.

Defections

New vacancies

  • Elmbridge: Weybridge St George’s Hill, after the death of Weybridge and St George’s Independent councillor Peter Harman. Term ends 2027.
  • Oxfordshire: Chesterton and Launton division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat county councillor Will Boucher-Giles. Term ends 2029. As a result of his resignation, the Liberal Democrats no longer have an overall majority on the county council.
  • Somerset: Frome West division, after the disqualification of Green Party councillor Mick Dunk who was given a disqualifying sentence of imprisonment which he failed to overturn on appeal. Term ends 2027.
  • Stirling: Forth and Endrick ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Paul Henke. Term ends 2027.

Dates for byelections

  • Dover: The byelection due in Guston, Kingsdown and St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe ward will be held on 27 August.
  • Newcastle upon Tyne: The byelection due in Throckley, Walbottle and Newburn ward will be held on 27 August.
  • Oxfordshire: The byelection due in Chesterton and Launton division will be held on 3 September.
  • Sheffield: The byelection due in Southey ward will be held on 27 August.
