The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Canterbury: The byelection in Wincheap ward held on 13 November was won by Peter Campbell. Green Party gain from Liberal Democrat.
- East Lindsey: The byelection in Chapel St Leonards ward held on 13 November was won by Paul Sutton. Reform UK gain from Conservative.
- Gwynedd: The byelection in Bethel a’r Felinheli ward held on 13 November was won by Gwion Emyr. Plaid Cymru hold.
- North Somerset: The byelection in Long Ashton ward held on 13 November was won by Mike Dunn. Green Party hold.
- Vale of White Horse: The byelection in Ridgeway ward held on 13 November was won by Hannah Griffin. Liberal Democrat hold.
Defections
- Adur: Paul Mansfield, who was elected for the Conservatives in Peverel ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent Peveral councillor (sic).
- Brighton and Hove: Ty Galvin, who was elected for the Labour Party in Hanover and Elm Grove ward, has been suspended from the whip and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Bristol: Fabian Breckels, who was elected for the Labour Party in St George Troopers Hill ward, has returned to the whip after a brief suspension.
- Bromley: Alisa Igoe, who was elected for the Labour Party in Plaistow ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Caerphilly: Sean Morgan, who was elected for the Labour Party in Nelson ward but left it in September, has now joined the Green Party.
- Carmarthenshire: Rob James, who was elected for the Labour Party in Lliedi ward but left the party in 2024, has joined the Green Party. He remains as an unaffiliated councillor.
- Dudley: Two councillors elected for the Conservatives in Pedmore and Stourbridge East ward have joined Reform UK. They are James Clinton and Jason Thorne.
- Ealing: Swaran Padda, who was elected for the Labour Party in Lady Margaret ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- East Ayrshire: David Richardson, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Kilmarnock North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent.
- Hounslow: Three councillors elected for the Labour Party have left the party to sit as Independent councillors: Harleen Atwal Hear and Riaz Gull (both Heston Central ward), and Raghwinder Siddhu (Bedfont ward). Meanwhile Amritpal Mann (Heston East ward), who was elected for Labour but joined the Workers Party of Britain in 2024, has left it and is also sitting as an Independent.
- Lambeth: Tina Valcarcel, who was elected for the Labour Party in Stockwell East ward, has joined the Liberal Democrats.
- Monmouthshire: Tony Easson, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dewstow ward but left the party to sit as an ‘Independent Socialist’ in September, has now returned to the Labour Party.
- North Devon: Graham Bell, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Braunton East ward, has left the group to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
- Portsmouth: Jason Fazackerley, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Nelson ward, has joined Reform UK.
- South Gloucestershire: Matt Palmer, who was elected for the Labour Party in New Cheltenham ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Southwark: Two councillors elected for the Labour Party in Faraday ward who were suspended from Labour in September, have decided to leave the party for good to sit as Independent councillors. They are Sam Foster and Ketzia Harper.
- Staffordshire Moorlands: Connor Brady, who was elected for the Labour Party in Biddulph East ward but left it in May last year, has joined the Green Party. Meanwhile two councillors elected in Cheddleton ward as Conservatives have left the party to sit as Independents: Oliver Pointon and Michael Worthington. It is also noted that Gary Bentley, elected as an Independent councillor for Cheadle West ward, has joined Reform UK on the district council after being elected as a Reform UK county councillor.
- Stroud: John Parker, who was elected for the Labour Party in Stonehouse ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Swansea: Richard Lewis, who was elected for the Conservatives in Gower ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Torridge: James Craigie, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Bideford East ward, has joined the Green Party.
- Walsall: Two councillors elected for the Labour Party in Darlaston South ward have left the party to sit as Independents. They are Chris Bott and Paul Bott.
- West Suffolk: Ian Houlder, who was elected for the Conservatives in Barrow ward but had left the party in June, has now joined Reform UK.
New vacancies
- Cheshire West and Chester: Willaston and Thornton ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Myles Hogg. Term ends 2027.
- Hammersmith and Fulham: Hammersmith Broadway ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Patricia Quigley. Her term was to have ended in May so no byelection follows.
- Isle of Anglesey: Ynys Gybi ward, after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Trefor Lloyd Hughes. Term ends 2027.
- Lichfield: Armitage with Handsacre ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nicola Hawkins. Term ends 2027.
- Norfolk: Diss and Roydon division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Walter Kiddie. His term was due to end next May so there will be no replacement.
- Salford: Blackfriars and Trinity ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Roseanna Wain. As her term would have ended in May next year, no byelection will be held.
- Sevenoaks: Hextable ward, after the death of Independent councillor Darren Kitchener. Term ends 2027.
- Stockton-on-Tees: Eaglescliffe West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Laura Tunney. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- Harborough: The byelection due in Market Harborough Logan ward will be held on 18 December.
- Lichfield: The byelection due in Armitage with Handsacre ward will be held on 11 December.
- South Ribble: The byelection due in Broad Oak ward will be held on 18 December.
- Stockton-on-Tees: The byelection due in Eaglescliffe West ward will be held on 11 December.
- Suffolk: The byelection due in Pakefield division will be held on 18 December.
Other updates
- As noted on some of the new vacancies, this week marks the point at which councillors whose seats come up for re-election in 2026 are less than six months from the end of their term; accordingly if their seats become vacant, no byelection for a replacement can be called.
